Actress Funke Akindele has won the Best Actress in a comedy/TV Series category at the AMVCAs for the third time and it seems like the ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ actress is not afraid to break grounds.
The actress beat Tina Mba – Meet the In-Laws, Uche Jombo – Wives on Strike, Dineo Moeketsi – Mrs Right Guy, Chioma Akpotha – Wives on Strike, Funke Akindele – A Trip to Jamaica and Omoni Oboli – Wives on Strike.
You may remember that in 2014, at the second edition of the AMVCAs, the actress emerged the Best Actress in a comedy for her role in ‘The Return Of Sheri Koko’, and two years after, she received an award in the same category, and this year again she won it for her role in Jenifa’s Diary, making her the first actress to win in the same category thrice.
She also won Best TV series for her hit show, Jenifa’s Diary, alondside a N250,000 cash prize.
The series beat “Sokhulu and Partners season 3,” “Duplicity,” “Beneath the Lies” and “Beyond Your Sight: The Police Story” to win the award.
Receiving the award, Funke Akindele who produces and stars in the series said, “I don’t actually have a life. Thank God I married this man [JJC]. I drink, eat and write “Jenifa’s Diary. I Couldn’t have done this without my Husband and my Jenifans”
The actress dedicated the award to her family, cast and crew of the TV series, her husband and her ‘Jenifans’.
