Editor’s note: United States congressman Tom Marino, has last week written a letter to Secretary of State, John Kerry, asking the American government to stop security assistance to Nigeria.
Marino supposed that President Muhammadu Buhari in his leadership is disposing towards autocratic tendencies and also fighting corruption selectively.
Henry Egharevba, NAIJ.com contributor, writes a response to American official, saying that US must be happy that they met somebody like President Buhari.
Please, I wish to respond to the letter written by Mr Tom Marino addressed to secretary Kerry, requesting the US to withhold military assistance to Nigeria on some myopic issues he raised.
On the issue of corruption, I still do not understand why people believe prosecution is selective. I want to ask Mr Tom, for the past 16 years of democracy in Nigeria is it not the PDP that was in government?

Upon inauguration of this administration an offer was extended to corrupt politicians to refund their loots, some did and joined the government, others refused and decided to fight the government, I guess Mr Tom is an agent to some of such people.
Secondly, the achievement of the military and other security agencies in Nigeria have been applauded in the world for being able to degrade the third must deadliest terrorist group and flush them out of the country within two years despite US initial blockage to acquire military hardware.
Thanks to such countries like Ukraine that came to our aid then.
Thirdly, Mr Tom should note that Boko Haram sect from a small group grew to become the beast of today.
Hence, we can no longer allow personal interest of just a selected few selfish persons to treat national peace.
Fourthly, the issue of inclusive governance and empowering one section over the other.
It is not true that the most powerful minister is the minister of petroleum and from the region he said was marginalized. Transportation is yet another important ministry.
I don’t understand why Mr Tom want the fragile trust the secretary Kerry is trying to build in the minds of Nigerian who are finding it hard to forgive the US of betrayal when we needed their assistance the most.

While my interest is not whether the US agree to help us or not, in fact, they should be happy that they met someone like PMB because if I were the president of Nigeria I wouldn’t welcome the US to my country until the return of all the stolen money traced to their country.
