Joseph Waweru cannot reach into his pocket for change, get into fights and he certainly won’t be washing his own clothes. Sacrifices must be made to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for the world’s longest nails.
Joseph Waweru and his 1.3 foot long, lacquered nails are famous in Mombasa. He is a tourist attraction of sorts, earning anything from KES 2500 ($28) to KES 5000 ($56) per day.
In an interview with Nairobi News, Waweru said: “I apply nail polish with the colours of the Kenya flag because most tourists, who want to take a photo with me like my nails with the colours of our national flag.” He does not use nail hardener to keep his nails from breaking but files them.
