Photos: Hermes Bag Breaks Auction Record, Sells For $380,000 A Whopping N120 million

A luxury Hermes handbag fetched a jaw-dropping $380,000, shattering the world auction record in Hong Kong on Wednesday, Christie’s said. The auction house didn’t identify the buyer of the matte white “Himalaya” crocodile skin Hermes Birkin bag. .

The handbag was produced in 2014 and has 18 karat gold buckles and strap loops encrusted with 205 diamonds. It fetched 2.94 million Hong Kong dollars ($380,000), which Christie’s says is a record for any handbag sold at auction. .

The price flew past the presale estimate of HK 1.5 million-2 million ($193,000-$258,000) during 10 to 15 minutes of intense bidding in the auction room and from phone and online buyers, Christie’s spokeswoman Gigi Ho said. .

The price surpasses the record set a year ago when Christie’s auctioned a similar Birkin bag for $300,000. It had identical specifications but was produced in 2008.

Photos: See What Soldiers Did To Residents Of Denkyira Boase, Ghana, For Killing A Soldier Captain Maxwell Mahama

A number of suspects have been arrested over the grisly murder of military officer in Denkyira Boase in the Central Region, Ghana on Monday, May 29.

The officer, Captain Maxwell Mahama was lynched by residents of the Denkyira Boase Township on suspicion of being an armed robber. He was a military officer with the 5th Infantry Batallion (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra but on detachment duties there where he met his untimely death.
Capt. Mahama who is the commander of the area military detachment, according to his subordinates, was seen jogging along the main road and as he stopped by to ask some women for directions, the women saw a pistol on him.
Alarmed by the pistol on him, the women mistook him for an armed robber thereby alerting their assembly member who allegedly organised some men to lynch him and even burnt him in the process.

Their action is said to have been influenced by recent robbery attacks in the area with a recent one being a day before as the people in the mining town have been subjected to some serious robbery attacks. Capt. Mahama was not in uniform when the incident happened.

Whistleblower Arraigned For Giving False Information On The Deputy Senate President

The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday arraigned a 50-year-old man, Ahmed Echodo, for allegedly misleading the police to conduct a raid at a building belonging to the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Friday. .

According to the one-count charge, two defendants were accused of the offense, although only Mr. Echodo was arraigned at a magistrate court in Abuja. .

Security operatives had ransacked Mr. Ekweremadu’s building on Friday morning following information accusing the occupants of criminal offenses. They found nothing incriminating during the search. .

According to the charge, the men, Mr. Echodo and Maiwada Adamu, are accused of conspiring to falsely inform the office of the IGP that the building, occupied by Oliver Ogenyi, is being maintained and used for criminal activities including storage of arms and ammunition. .

The second accused, Mr. Adamu, was not in court while the first defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecution counsel, Ismail Tawo, informed the court that Mr. Adamu was at large. .

The magistrate, Umar Kagarko, asked the police to find and present him in court at the next sitting. The counsel to the defense, Peter Ngwoke, prayed the court to grant his client bail. Mr. Kagarko adjourned till June 5, for ruling on the bail application.

FUTA Sets Nigerian Record Set To Launch Satellite Into Space

The Federal University of Technology, Akure, announced on Tuesday that it would on Thursday launch a satellite into space in partnership with other local and international organisations and countries.

The university said the satellite belonged to Japan, Ghana, Mongolia, Nigeria and Bangladesh, and would be launched into Space from Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, USA.

“It is the first ever university satellite to be launched in Nigeria,” a statement by the university stated. The statement reads further: ”

FUTA, scientific prowess will get a big fillip on Thursday June 1st at 10.55pm (Nigerian time), when the SpaceX Falcon9 Rocket launches Birds 1 satellites, comprising 5 CubeSats belonging to Japan, Ghana, Mongolia, Nigeria and Bangladesh, into Space.

The Nigerian CubeSat, code name NigeriaEdusat-1, is designed, built and owned by FUTA, in collaboration with National Space Research and Development Agency, NASRDA, Abuja, Nigeria, and Kyushu Institute of Technology Japan.

Ibukun Adebolu of FUTA’s Department of Mechanical Engineering is the representative of Nigeria on the project. It is the first ever university satellite to be launched in Nigeria. .

The CubeSats will be launched and docked to the International Space Station where the satellites will be deployed into lower orbit during the last week of June 2017. .

A Chinese Kung Fu expert whose news stunned many when he first dragged seven cars with his penis has become the new record holder for replicating his incredible talent, but this time on a Helicopter.

Ye Hongwei, while standing in front of spectators, recently towed a heavy military helicopter with a rope tied around his genitals at the tarmac outside the hangar in Fangshan District, Chinese capital Beijing.

In the footage, he was first seen struggling with the helicopter but later summoned the courage to drag the helicopter over 10 metres (32 feet 9 inches), beating his intended target of 8 metres (26 feet 3 inches).
 
After he attained the incredible milestone he received a world record certificate by officials representing the World Record Academy.
Speaking after the unbelievable event, Ye Wei said:
“I don’t know why I struggled in the beginning. I felt a bit nervous and unsure. But I mustered up the energy needed and started the helicopter moving.”

 

Ye who hails from the city of Zibo in East China’s Shandong Province,  said he has been practicing “zen tai chi” for over 30 years.
