Naira Firms To N460 Per Dollar At Parallel Market

The Nigerian Naira has made a huge gain at the parallel market as it now trades at N460 per United States dollar on Friday, February 24.

The Naira gained 40 points to trade at N460 from the N500/dollar rate on Thursday, February 23.

The local currency also appreciated against the Pound Sterling to trade at N575 from N600 and strengthened against the Euro to trade at N480 from N510.

The Naira’s strength over the dollar can be attributed to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s adjustments to its forex policy.

The new policy is aimed at boosting forex supply to enable commercial banks meet the needs of customers seeking dollar, to pay school fees and medical bills overseas, as well as personal travel allowances.

The CBN will next week begin the weekly sale of $1m to each of the country’s 21 commercial banks at N375/dollar to clear a backlog of demand for retail users, and to try and narrow the premium between the official and black market rates.

Moments later, Tonto shockingly replied, alleging that she used her platform as a popular star to lie
about the gifts to make her ex-husband, Churchill, the man he is today.

But fans are not buying it because if she could say the gifts are not real, considering how excited she was when she received all the expensive gifts and flaunted them on social media, how are they not sure she’s lying right now to tarnish his image because of the bitter separation war they are fighting.

“It’s Better To Be Atheist Than A Hypocritical Catholic” – Pope Francis

Pope Francis has delivered another criticism of some members of his own church , suggesting it was better to be an atheist than one of many Catholics who he said lead a hypocritical double life.

In improvised comments in the sermon of his private morning mass in his residence, he said: “It is a scandal to say one thing and do another. That is a double life.

“There are those who say, ‘I am very Catholic, I always go to mass, I belong to this and that association’,” the head of the 1.2 billion-member Roman Catholic church said, according to a Vatican Radio transcript.

He said some of these people should also say “‘my life is not Christian, I don’t pay my employees proper salaries, I exploit people, I do dirty business, I launder money, [I lead] a double life’.”

“There are many Catholics who are like this and they cause scandal,” he said. “How many times have we all heard people say ‘if that person is a Catholic, it is better to be an atheist’.”

Since his election in 2013, Francis has often told Catholics, both priests and lay people, to practise what their religion preaches.

In his often impromptu sermons, he has condemned sexual abuse of children by priests as being tantamount to a “satanic mass”, said Catholics in the mafia excommunicate themselves, and told his own cardinals to not act “as if they were princes”.

Less than two months after his election, he said Christians should see atheists as good people if they do good.

Meet Imoh Umoren and Imoh Umoren II, a father and 2-year-old son in Lagos, Nigeria.

On Tuesday, Imoh ran in a race at school. He was doing pretty well — that is, until he spotted his dad and ran to hug him instead of crossing the finish line.

“So he was competing in the toddlers category, and he was making good progress, but he spotted me trying to take a picture of him and he ran to hug me instead of completing the race,” Umoren told BuzzFeed News.

“I guess he’s used to ending most of his races at home with running into my arms.”

Umoren said he was able to convince his son to get back in the race, and he wound up finishing fourth.

“He was a bit disappointed that I wouldn’t join in because we always do it together, but he didn’t seem to care,” he said. “You know kids.”

Imoh placed third in another event that day, which his father said left him “a bit teary,” since it was his first competition ever.

“On our way home we stopped over for ice cream, and he seems like he enjoyed himself, which is important for me,” he said.

People have all the feelings about their sweet father-son bond.

Umoren said being a father has changed him a lot.

 

“I’ve stopped cursing in real life because he always mimics me,” he said.
“I’m also raising him to be expressive about the way he feels and to be a gentleman. If he offends you, he comes and says sorry and kisses you.”

“I mean, I’m a very emotional guy and I want my kid to be the same way, and not some patriarchal macho who is incapable of feeling,” he said.

He added that fatherhood has surpassed his wildest dreams.

 

“For me, all my life I’ve always wanted a kid,” he said. “My parents died when I was 13, so I had always craved that father-son relationship. And we’ve grown to love each other.”

“I used to think it was corny, but now I’ve become the corny dad,” he said.

Leicester City Sack Premier League-Winning Coach Claudio Ranieri

Manager Claudio Ranieri has been sacked by Leicester City, nine months after leading them to the Premier League title.

The Foxes are one point above the relegation zone with 13 matches left.

“The board reluctantly feels that a change of leadership, while admittedly painful, is necessary in the club’s greatest interest,” read a statement.

Olulade, Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Health Services, in a statement, said: “We have culture and tradition in this country that we must not allow to die.

The FG needs to reconsider the implications of Big Brother Naija on our culture and youths. The content of Big Brother Naija reality show is alien to our culture. This show is contrary to the rich cultural values we are trying to promote and bring to the front burner.

It is sad that our young children including adults are made to watch such content. This kind of programme promotes obscenity and immorality. We must not encourage such if our hallowed cultural heritage would be preserved. .

We cannot prevent our inquisitive young ones from watching the obscene displays that permeate the show. I think the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) should, without delay, stop this programme if this government means business in the promotion of our cultural values.

The show does not add any value to our education, social and economic life. It is a big mockery of Nigerian culture and tradition,’’ Olulade said. According to him, the inmates in the show, being Nigerians, should have portrayed the Nigerian cultural heritage instead of bastardising it. .

He said that a programme of the calibre of Big Brother Naija was capable of causing distractions to the Nigerian youths and affecting many families. “The implication of allowing the children to keep watching this show can be negative on this. “Our children should not be allowed to be corrupt because this may affect their future aspiration,” he said.

The young boy who was found hawking on the streets of Cross River about a month ago, has been gracefully taken from the streets and been put in school.

Facebook user, First Baba Isa shared the joyful story on Facebook alongside photos. He wrote:

HURRAY! THE HAWKER KID IS IN SCHOOL
Do you remember that little boy I met hawking in Ogoja about a month ago? He is now in school. One of the best private schools in Ogoja where he is given one full meal a day and the school bus also picks him up daily to go to school. He has been issued uniforms, textbooks and exercise books. Our little chap is on his way to greatness. I’m so excited!
When I met this little cutie hawking when he was suppose to be in school, my heart broke. The father initially resisted my initial move to help. We went past that and here we are. I’m not a millionaire but the little we have, we can share. We can’t save the thousands of kids hawking on our streets but for this one, we have taken him off the streets. And by the grace of God he will stay off the streets and study up to the university.
We didn’t do this alone. We just couldn’t. When I wrote about this kid, many persons supported me with kind words and holy anger… Some did more. Ofem Ekapong Ofem, Okoi Eduson, Peter Offem Ubi, sent in money to support his schooling. Thank you my brothers. The little you sent went a long way.
