President Buhari Extends Vacation Yet Again, Says “I Need Longer Period Of Rest”

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday has said that he needed longer period of rest and may not return back to the country as scheduled.

In a statement released the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina said the results of the series of medical checkups President Buhari carried out in the cause of his medical vacation had shown that he needed longer period of rest.

He said this necessitated his staying back in London, United Kingdom longer than initially planned.

Adesina did not disclose how long the President’s “longer period of rest” will take.

He however thanked Nigerians for their prayers and good wishes while assuring them that there is no cause for worry

The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari thanks millions of Nigerians who have been sending good wishes and praying for his health and well-being in mosques and churches throughout the country

“The President is immensely grateful for the prayers, show of love and concern.

“President Buhari wishes to reassure Nigerians that there is no cause for worry.

‘”During his normal annual checkup, tests showed he needed a longer period of rest, necessitating the President staying longer than originally planned”.

The Nigerian Naira has again crashed to a new record low at parallel market as it now trades at N520 per United States dollar on Monday, February 20.

The Naira plummeted at the parallel market from N516/dollar on Friday, February 17, to a new record low of N520/dollar.

The local currency also depreciated to N635 against the Pound sterling from N630 and crashed against Euro to trade at N545 from N540.

Economic and financial experts are divided over the outlook for the Naira this year but many have said the local currency may depreciate further in the coming months.

But according to a Bureau de change source, currency traders are trying to digest a new central bank decision to sell dollars to retail users through commercial lenders.

It was gathered that the Central Bank of Nigeria plans to sell $1 million weekly to each of the country’s 21 commercial lenders at a rate of 375 naira to clear a backlog of demand for retail users, and try to narrow the premium between the official and black market rates.

Retail currency users buy dollars from licensed bureaux de change (BDC). However, due to the central bank’s inability to meet dollar demand, BDCs have tended to source dollars from private sources and resell at a much higher margin, fuelling the black market.

Buhari Budgets N40Million To Fed Aso Rock Animals

Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Senator Ben Murray Bruce has lambasted the Buhari led federal government for given priority to animals while Nigerians are suffering.

The Senator lamented that when Nigerians are finding it difficult to eat, the government during that period decided to budget a whopping sum of N40m to feed animals in the presidential villa.

On his Twitter handle ‏@benmurraybruce, Murray-Bruce tweeted: “It breaks my heart that at a time when many Nigerians can’t eat, we are budgeting ₦40 million to feed wildlife in Aso Rock Presidential Villa!”

Recall that the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recently released reports on the percentage of increment in prices of kerosene, petrol and transportation as against the previous year.

These commodities are believed to be essential to every Nigerian as it directly impact their living standards.

The reports which touched every state of the federation showed massive increments in terms of money being paid by Nigerians for these essential commodities.

However, despite the gloomy report, and the drastic reduction in the purchasing power of Nigerians, the government budgeted a whooping sum for feeding animals.
