buhari00

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians not to lose faith in his administration.

In his 2016 Eid-El-Maulud message, the president said

“the reality of the temporary challenges should not undermine our hope, reverse our collective will to succeed, or divide us..”
Read Mr. Buhari’s full message:

Again the calendar of life has brought us into another period of celebration, and deep reflection. Celebration, because we are marking the birth of Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him), and deep reflection, because it is another opportunity of pausing, taking a deep breath and reflecting on the current realities before us.

First of all, I wish all Muslims a happy and memorable celebration of the birth of the great Prophet, through whose teachings, particularly on peaceful living, tolerance, sobriety, generosity, sacrifice and honesty, and wisdom, the nation has gained immensely in building a harmonious and prosperous society. The universal truths of the Prophet’s values remain unchanged.

Against all odds, we have used these pillars of strength in securing a just and fair society, and our efforts are beginning to yield dividends in curbing terrorism, militancy, corruption and other crimes that devalue our humanity.

As we use the memorable occasion of this celebration to reflect on our current challenges, I urge you not to lose faith in the ability of this administration to make a difference in the lives of our people.

The reality of the temporary challenges should not undermine our hope, reverse our collective will to succeed, or divide us; rather it should remind us of why we need to stay together, fight together and succeed together. We all share a vision of a better Nigeria, and we will all share in the responsibility of building the country of our dreams.

As we look forward to 2017 with hope and huge expectations, let me assure you that with collective dedication and hard work, we will overcome the mountain of economic difficulties, and return our country to the path of prosperity.

The 2017 Budget proposals which I will lay before the National Assembly on Wednesday, will contain measures that we are confident will get the nation out of its economic woods.

As we celebrate and reflect, I wish all Nigerians a peaceful Eid-el-Maulud.
MUHAMMADU BUHARI
PRESIDENT, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

Cristiano Ronaldo capped a brilliant year by being crowned winnerof the Ballon d’Or for a fourth time in Paris on Monday night.

In doing so he beat out the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Luis Suarez and perennial rival Lionel Messi.

When it’s the first time, the emotion is always special. But I I feel today like I did in 2008.

I have the opportunity to thank all of my team-mates, the national team, Real Madrid, all of the people and players who helped me to win this individual award.

Nigerians are familiar with the saying ‘out of the black pot comes the white pap’; this phrase is a popular saying that has found its roots in many life situations.

It is intriguing finding people with humble backgrounds breaking limits and soaring high in life despite their foundation. These are people who do not allow their environments to dictate their pace and inhibit their performances in life.

When it comes to intelligence, some individuals have been found to demonstrate or exhibit a higher level of intelligence when compared to their peers. It is almost unbelievable to see some students doing better than their mates even though they have been given the same material to learn with.

This is where determination, drive and passion come into play as students have different interest. An Idanre based guy identified as Akinbowa Adeolu graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University as the best student from the department of medicine.

Adeolu bagged 12 awards from the prestigious university despite the fact that he graduated from Ebun Ogunyinka Grammar school in Atosin-Idanre.

If a genius from a humble background like this could perform so well in a reputable university like OAU, it means there is a big hope for students who attend government owned schools.

Contrary to the belief that private schools produce the best students in the world, Adeolu’s case has proved to be an exception. There are some intelligent students that will compete with students from private schools and beat them while at it.

Parents who do not have what it takes to send their children to private schools should not feel bitter about this. It is possible for them to become successful and celebrated individuals in the society if they set their hearts upon learning and being successful.

Adeolu graduated from a school in Idanre to become the best student in OAU. This young medical doctor’s story will no doubt inspire many people around and help them stay strong in achieving their dreams.

West African leaders are to head to Gambia on Tuesday to try to persuade incumbent President Yahya Jammeh to agree “to leave office” after his defeat at the ballot box.

The delegation headed by Liberian leader Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, current chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), will include Pres. Buhari, Sierra Leone leader Ernest Bai Koroma and Ghanaian President John Mahama.

Senegalese Foreign Minister Mankeur Ndiaye said an ECOWAS delegation was previously due in Banjul last week but Jammeh did not allow them to visit.

In a U-turn at the weekend, the temperamental Jammeh, who has ruled The Gambia with an iron fist for 22 years, rejected his stunning electoral defeat to opposition candidate Adama Barrow.
