Recession: “We Are Missing Nigerians” – Dubai Luxury Shops Cry Out

dubai

Dubai luxury shops are feeling the absence of Nigerians who have been kept away from their usual travels to Asia’s shopping capital by a weaker naira and higher airfares, Businessday reports.

Nigerians who typically buy huge volumes of luxury goods are cutting down on their expenses. “Before now, purchases from Nigerians made up about 18% of our market share, but it has dropped to about eight percent this year. .

I tell you the truth, we really miss Nigerians here and we hope things get better so that they can shop again as they used to,” Bilal Chaouch, sales manager, Paul Smith, said.

“We hope the government in Nigeria will help provide dollars for Nigerians to come and shop here as they use to do. We hope things get better because patronage by Nigerians has been part of our success story,” he added.

Johanna Pascual, sales manager, Accessorize, also said Nigerians often bought accessories in large quantities but there has been a sharp drop this year because only few Nigerians have been visiting recently and those who come do not buy as much as they used to.

“I always believed Nigerians were very rich people because when they came to buy gold, they always bought in large quantities and paid immediately. But that has changed now. We have not sold as much as we sold accessories by this time last year,” Pascual disclosed.

Gilbert, a sales representative of Timex, said he has observed a sharp drop in demand from Nigerians for luxury brands. The Dubai attraction has lost its shine as Nigerians now struggle at the airports to get dollars to travel unlike before when they could easily travel with the cards and shop in over 200 countries around the world.

“It Was Difficult To Get Roles Because Of My Dark Complexion” – Mercy Johnson

Mercy-Johnson (2)

Nollywood actress and mother of three, Mercy Johnson Okojie in this recent chat with Saturday beats has revealed some producers did not give her movie roles because of her complexion.

She said that when she started out in the Nigerian movie industry, most
movie directors and producers always preferred to cast fair-skinned ladies at the expense of talented but dark-skinned ones.

“It is very true that when I was starting out in the movie industry, it was difficult to get roles because of my complexion. I faced that a lot and I tell people that my success is just grace. Somebody once told me that I am too dark but that is where the grace and favour of God comes in. Regardless of everything, most of the dark-skinned actresses that are my contemporaries made it,” she said.

The actress also told Saturday Beats that it would be unfair of anyone to say she features in any movie without any consideration.

“It is not true that I pick just any movie role. People are different and what appeals to one person might not appeal to the other. One of my most popular movies is ‘Dumebi Goes to School’ and I know how many actresses rejected that script before I accepted to do it. That movie has been one of the highest selling movies in Nollywood till date. I think it is not fair for anyone to say I just jump on any movie production.

As human beings, our strength is in our diversity and differences; this means that what you call trash might not be trash to someone else. I select my scripts and I work with all of my heart because acting is my passion. When I read a script and it appeals to me, I have fun while I do it,” the actress said.

“Any Woman Who Refuse Her Husband Sex Even If Its Only Once Has Sinned Against Allah” – Islamic Expert On Marriage Counselling Reveals

musleh

A Muslim police chaplain has been ordered to explain himself after heallegedly claimed that women “sin” if they do not consent to sex with their husbands.

Musleh Khan, who claims to be an expert on marriage counselling, believes that a wife must be completely obedient to their husband, according to a leaked presentation.

The new police chaplain reportedly said that unless a woman is ill, or is fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, they must consent to sex when their husband demands it.

He allegedly said:

“Without a valid reason then she committed a major sin.
“So sisters it’s part of your act of worship towards Allah that you try to respond to this as best you can as part of your duties as the wife.”

Khan also reportedly advised women that they should seek permission from their husbands just to leave their home.

The perturbing comments came in a question and answer session at Ummah Nabawiah Mosque in Ontario, Canada, in 2015, where Khan explained that a girl is fit to be married whenever she hits puberty.

Speaking about Mohammed’s marriage to nine year-old Aisha in the Koran, he reportedly said:

“Nine year-olds back then are comparable to 20 to 30 year-olds now.
“Back then at nine years old you were mature enough and you could get married.”

DailyExpressUK reports that the president of the Toronto Police Association, Mike McCormack, received a torrent of emails about the chaplain’s views and said Mr Khan “needs to clarify his comments.”

“Covenant University’s School Fees Has God’s Approval, My Critics Risk God’s Wrath” – David Oyedepo

bishop oyedopo

The Bishop of the Living Faith Church worldwide, has appealed to those criticising the school fees charged by Covenant University to desist to avoid incurring the wrath of God. He said the critics were acting in ignorance and risked incurring the wrath of God.

He said one of such critic smitten with a strange plague of chronic mouth odour over the act only received spiritual pardon following his confession and “my intervention before he was restored to dignity.”

Oyedepo said the issue of school fees paid by students of the university was a godly agenda to meet the demands of raising godly children in an environment conducive for learning.

He said such criticisms were products of ignorance as what students pay could not be compared with what obtained elsewhere that lacked facilities. “The school fees has Gods approval and is in accordance with the quality of facilities provided by the university in meeting the educational needs of the nation,” he said.

“There Are Lots Of Evil Spirits And People Who Are Always Ready To Break Relationships, They Just Don’t Want Us To Be Happy” – Juliet Ibrahim

Juliet-Ibrahim-Natural

Months after Juliet Ibrahim’s alleged relationship with former Mr Nigeria, Emmanuel Ikubuese crumbled, the Ghanaian star has revealed she is open to finding love again.

In a new interview with Punch, the actress spoke on her relationship with her ex husband whom she had a son for, the challenges of dating especially as a celebrity, and forces that works against celebrity relationships.

“I speak with my ex-husband; it is a must we speak because we have a son together,” she said of Kwadwo Safo Jnr., her ex husband whom she was married to from 2010-2014. The pair have a son together and have since been raising him jointly, even though they have both moved on.

“Everything is fine between us,” she added. “But there is no way we are getting back together because it is in the past and he has moved on.”

In March of this year, Emmanuel Ikubuese wrote the actress a love note, confirming rumours that they were dating. But it all came tumbling down by May when she took to her Instagram to confirm she is single again.

Now she attributes failed celebrity relations to unseen forces, adding that these ‘spirits’ are not happy when stars are in relationships.

She told Punch:

“Of course I am open to love. I don’t really look out for anything in a man because I believe if the right person is there, God would definitely bring him my way and I would just feel it. I would just know. I don’t have a list of quality a man must possess. It also has to do with the man’s personality because from the first greeting, you can tell if we would click or not. I don’t really have so much I expect in a man but I know that he has to be God-fearing. With the kind of industry that I have found myself, you can only pray for a God-fearing man who would not listen to rumours.

“There are lots of evil spirits and people who are always ready to break relationships because we are in the limelight. They feel we do not deserve the best; that is what I noticed. They just don’t want us to be happy.”
