Immigrant and HIV positive in once sentence. Looks to me like they don't think he should be hugging people...lol. But it's a positive story though. Read it after the cut...

From Evening Standard

A Nigerian immigrant who is also HIV positive has taken to the streets in the constituency where Nigel Farage is running for election to encourage people not to vote for Ukip.
Bisi Alimi, a prominent gay rights activist, is offering free hugs to anyone who wants to listen to his message in South Thanet, Kent.

In recent days he has become a regular visitor to the town centre, attracting crowds of people by holding a sign which reads: "I'm an immigrant. Hug me or ask me a question?"
Commenting on an encounter with one sceptical passer-by, he wrote on Instagram: "He stood afar from me for a while, kept looking at me. He was there yesterday with his wife. Then the wife walked up to me and started engaging with me. She hugged me. Then the man came shook my hand and said, thank you for doing this. Then I said; "you know you want a hug' to which he answered yes I sure do want a hug" and then we hugged and told him like I did to others "Please don't vote UKIP" and he said "to hell I wont". I love #ThanetSouth."

Mr Alimi, who was granted protection asylum in the UK in 2008 and later completed a master's in politics at Birkbeck University, decided to attempt the stunt after being verbally abused by a Ukip supporter in the street last week. He has received scores of messages of support for his campaign on Twitter.

Diego Marcano wrote: "Hug campaign to favour migrants its absolutely brilliant. Thumbs up man! #WeCare."

Photo: Woman narrates how her 'boyfriend' lured her into kidnappers den in Ogun

28 year old woman, names withheld who was rescued from a kidnappers den at Unity and Peace Estate along Itele-Lafenwa Road, Ota in the Ado Odo-Ota Local Government Area.in Ogun state yesterday May 7th, has narrated how she was lured into the kidnappers den by a new lover she started a relationship with two weeks ago. According to the woman...

"I met one of the ritual killers about two weeks ago and we started a relationship. The guy told me that he was a contractor and promised to link me up with people who would give me juicy contracts. The man called me two days ago and told me about a contract worth about N1.5m, but I could not meet him because I was sick. The man later came to my residence in Lagos and still persuaded me to come for the deal. On getting to the Unity and Peace Estate, we headed for an uncompleted building. One other person joined us. When we got to the building, I saw that the house had been plastered and the floor had been cemented. But both of them pounced on me, beat me up and attempted to rape me. I was having my monthly flow and that dissuaded them. They then tied my hands and legs, blindfolded and gagged me. They promised to come back at night to complete their assignment. It was a miracle that passers-by rescued me.”she told Punch
The woman who was tied by the men was able to roll over to the main gate of the uncompleted building and was noticed by some passersby who raised alarm and she was freed. Police men were later invited and they were able to discover two female decomposing bodies, skeletons and some fetish materials. Residents of the estate say they had noticed the foul smell around the building but thought it was from a poultry nearby.

The Ogun state police command spokes person, Muyiwa Adejobi,  while confirming the incident said the police has taken over the building now" The command has taken over the building and our men will take some samples from the scene for forensic analysis to assist in investigation.”

Businessman killed during police stop and search

Four policemen have been arrested in Lagos for mounting an illegal checkpoint at the Mile 2 end of the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway and conducting unapproved stop-and-search.

It was gathered that during the exercise, a tanker ran over a businessman, Mr. Henry Dimoji.

48-year-old Dimoji, who hailed from Imo State, and his wife were returning from a wake keep in the FESTAC Town area in a Honda car. Only for them to be asked by the police to stop for a search when the incident occurred.

The policemen, reportedly attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Ikeja, had allegedly refused to allow Dimoji to park properly by the roadside, insisting that he came down to open his booth for the search. An oncoming tanker, said to be carrying diesel, hit the businessman and dragged him on the
road. The policemen were said to have avoided the tanker.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Linda had called on the officers and passersby for help, but the officers allegedly fled the scene.

It was gathered that the matter, which occurred at about 7.30pm last Thursday, April 30, was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, while the policemen had been arrested.

The truck driver and his conductor had also been arrested by the police. It was further learnt that the SCID was still searching for two policemen, who were also with the patrol team during the incident.

When PUNCH Metro visited the deceased’s residence on Okey Dimoji Drive in the Anthony Village area of Lagos, a relative, who identified himself simply as Frank, said Dimoji’s death was shocking to the family.

He said. “When Dimoji got to the checkpoint, the policemen asked him to park and open his booth, but they did not allow him to park properly. He told them to allow him to park when one of them brought out a gun and threatened to shoot if Dimoji disobeyed.

He then came out of the car to talk to the officers. Hardly had he come down when the trailer approached. The trailer driver, who was probably aware of the illegal checkpoint, tried to speed past the policemen. In the process, the trailer hit Dimoji in the thigh and dragged on the road for a few metres.

When the policemen saw this, they entered their van and fled. The wife started screaming and calling for help. It was even the trailer driver and the conductor who stopped and assisted to rush him to a hospital.

We have been to the SCID, and the police boss assured us that justice would be done on the matter. I saw the policemen that mounted the illegal checkpoint. They do not deserve to be in the Nigeria Police Force.”
A friend of the deceased, who identified himself simply as Sola, told Punch that Dimoji still called him on Thursday to plan a media event.
“He was a very industrious man. He had huge investments in Courier services, Telecommunications, Designs and media relations. The police should fish out all the culprits and bring them to book,” he said.

A condolence register was opened at his home for family and friends.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were ongoing on the matter.

Fuel Scarcity: We have 1.2bn litres of petrol in stock, says NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and its downstream subsidiary, the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), said they had 1.2 billion litres of petrol in stock. This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by Mr Ohi Alegbe, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Department, NNPC.

The statement stated that the figure translated to 31 days sufficiency, going by the 40 million litres daily consumption of the product in the country. It explained that the Managing Director of PPMC, Mr Haruna Momoh, made the announcement in Abuja. It quoted Haruna as saying that “21 additional vessels laden with petroleum products are in offshore Lagos waiting to berth.

“NNPC has made adequate arrangements to ensure energy sufficiency in the country and reassured motorists that the noticeable queues at the filling stations would thin out in the days ahead”.

Momoh said that the NNPC also had 21 days sufficiency of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) otherwise known as diesel and 18 days sufficiency of Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK), otherwise known as kerosene.

He said that as part of efforts to ensure petroleum products’ sufficiency and distribution, the NNPC embarked on aggressive Reception Depots rehabilitation in 2011. “As at today, 18 depots out of the 23 depots have been fully recovered with the exception of Makurdi, Yola and Maiduguri due to the activities of pipeline vandals,” he said.

The PPMC MD disclosed that the corporation suffered petroleum products losses worth N40.8bn through pipeline vandalism in 2014. He said that no business could survive such a loss and still remained a growing concern. Momoh said there was a marginal increase in pipeline vandalism, stressing that in 2013, the corporation recorded 3,517 vandalised points but in 2014, the figure increased to 3, 774.

He said that “as at today, 97 pipeline vandals are undergoing prosecution”. Momoh expressed regret that since the cases started a few years ago, none of the accused persons had been convicted for economic sabotage. He called on Nigerians from all walks of life, especially those living in communities where the pipelines run through, to protect them in national interest.
