Emir Sanusi replies Boko Haram: Nothing Will Happen To Me

Emir Sanusi

In what appears a direct reply to the Boko Haram leader, Shekau, the Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness, Muhammad Sanusi II, has declared that he remained protected against any evil attack and nothing is going to happen to him except it is the will of Allah, the creator.

This was disclosed during a Friday special prayer session held at the Kano City Central Mosque on Fruday. The Emir, Sanusi II, who presided over the special prayer, reiterated his earlier call on the general public to protect themselves against the attacks of the wicked Boko Haram sect.

The Emir declares: “I am protected and nothing is going to happen to me.”

On Shekau’s position on attacking religious groups, Emir Sanusi urged all Muslim faithful and the followers of Tijjaniyya, Qadiriyya and Izala religious movement to be vigilant and continue to guard themselves and rise against insurgent attacks.

He called on the people to be vigilant and protect their mosques, churches, markets and hospitals against any attack.

According to Emir Sanusi, it is rather unacceptable for people to abandon their daily deals or desert places of worship because of Boko Haram. He urged all not to succumb to fear but be their brothers’ keepers.

inferno-702x336

Tragedy struck on Thursday when seven members of the same family got burnt in a midnight inferno at Anyamkor near Young Secondary School, Gboko, Benue State.Saturday Sun gathered that the fire, which ravaged four flats of two bedrooms each, started at Mr. Lawani Oye’s flat around 11.40pm and burnt to death the husband, wife and their five children.

Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that as soon as the fire started from Oye’s flat, his wife popularly known as Mama Tunde was said to have raised the alarm, which prompted other neighbours to rush out of their flats.

“We were jolted out of sleep with the shout from the neighbour’s flat as Mama Tunde was shouting fire! fire!! fire!!!. It was her shout that woke us up and we all rushed out of our flats without evacuating anything.”

The victims’ neighbour who did not want her name in print expressed grief that the same woman who raised the alarm could not be saved as she and her family were burnt beyond recognition.

The eyewitness who could not ascertain the cause of the inferno, said that the only clue was that the generator was running in the night and by the time they went round after the fire they saw a lantern near the generating set.

It was gathered that the charred bodies of the deceased were left at the premises of the General Hospital, Gboko, at the time of filing this report because the workers were on strike. When contacted, the acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Matthew Oku said that the command was yet to be briefed on the incident

Man dies in Lagos prison for attempting to withdraw N25k from brother’s account

Ojokoro-Magistrates’-Court--360x243

A senior magistrate of a court sitting in Ijaiye-Ojokoro, Lagos State, Mrs. O.A Olayinka, on Thursday berated some officers of the Nigerian Prisons Service attached to the Kirikiri Medium Security Prison for the death of a defendant, Okenife Okeke.

The magistrate blamed the prison officers for their failure to produce the defendant in the court after his first appearance on April 3, 2014.

Punch learnt that 29-year-old Okeke had been remanded in the prison while the case was adjourned till April 10.

He was, however, not brought to the court until he died of diabetes in November 11 at the prison’s clinic.”

Our correspondent learnt that Okeke’s case was adjourned by the court six times after the NIS failed to produce him in court.

Punch Metro gathered that on two occasions, the warders had adduced their failure to produce Okeke to “oversight” and “a breakdown of one of the prison’s vehicles.”

It was further gathered that the deceased, who was arraigned on one count of attempted stealing, was not brought before the court on five different adjourned dates even though the magistrate issued a production warrant mandating the NPS to present the accused person.

The defendant was said to have been arrested for attempting to withdraw a sum of N25,000 from the bank account of his brother, Boniface, without the latter’s consent.

The magistrate said the case may have been struck out if brought to court..
